Flute Recommendations

 Hi everyone,

Here is a list a flutes that I would recommend for beginners, step up and also intermediate players.
I will explain the difference between each different level of flute, as I go along.

Student & Beginner Flutes
- Trevor James TJ10X Student Flute
- Jupiter JFL-700EC Student Flute
- Pearl PF-505E 'Quantz' Flute

All of these student/ beginner model flutes have a silver plated nickel body, head joint and mechanism; an Offset G, & also a Split E Mechanism.
When I first started out on my learning journey with the flute I started out with a Trevor James TJ10X flute, and it's a fantastic student model flute. I just outgrew it within the space of around 18 months.

Step Up Flutes
- Miyazawa 202 Flute
- Trevor James 'Chanson' Flute
- Pearl PF-665 'Quantz' Flute
- Di Zhao DZ-601 CEF Flute

These models are the next step up from a beginner model flute. All of these flutes contain a Solid Silver head joint, but they have a silver plated nickel body & mechanism. There is also a number of variables that start to happen with a step up flute. These flutes have either Closed or Open holes, Offset G or Inline G, with or without the Split E Mechanism & also comes with either a C Foot or B Foot. It's just down to personal preference to what you would like in a step up instrument.

Intermediate Flutes
- Altus 1007 Flute (925 Silver Body & Head Joint)
- Altus 1107 Flute (958 Silver Body & Head Joint)
- Powell Sonare PS-601BEFK Flute (925 Silver Body & Head Joint with a 9k Aurumite Lip Plate)
- Haynes Q2 Flute (925 Silver Body & Head Joint with an optional 14k Rose Gold Riser)
- Murumatsu GXIII Flute (925 Silver Body & Head Joint)
- Miyazawa 402 Flute (925 Silver Body & Head Joint)
- Miyazawa 602 Flute (958 Silver Body & Head Joint)
- Pearl PF-795 'Elegante' Flute (925 Silver Body & Head Joint)

With the intermediate flutes comes even more variables including the ones that come with a step up flute. This includes having a silver body and head joint, with a silver plated mechanism. They also start to include more hand made elements, such as having an hand made head joint or maybe a specific mechanism. Altus has the WIBB Scale Mechanism as standard, and Miyazawa comes with either a Partial Brogger or a full Brogger system; and Miyazawa usually states that in the model number with either PB = Partial Brogger or B = Brogger. You also might start to get a range of head joint options depending on the brand of flute your interested in buying.
I'm currently playing on an Altus 1107, as I love the depth of colour & tone that I get from 958 silver. It's also my first open holed flute.
