Hi everyone,
In this post I'm going to talk about looking for your next instrument upgrade, and how to go about it.
First thing to do is to do some research and find out how much an instrument upgrade will set you back, and figure out how much you are willing to spend.
Then start looking at brands that offer upgrades within your chosen budget, and see if you also need any additional accessories. For example if you are upgrading from a 3/4 violin to a 4/4 violin you will need to get a new shoulder rest. So, you might want to factor that into your budget.
Once you have few brands and models in mind for your chosen instrument see if you can find a music store near that sells those particular brands and models that you are interested in buying. Give them a call to see if they will let you try the instruments that you are interested in, and see if you can try them to see if they suit you and your playing/ learning style. This might take a little time to do to find an instrument that isn't only just within your budget, but also suits you. Also, have a look into online music retailers, and see if they offer music instrument trials. Not every retailer will offer this service, but I cannot stress how important it is to find an instrument that works for you.
The best way to do this is to go exploring within your chosen budget, as you may find a brand of your instrument that you may have not come across before, and that instrument could be the best of the bunch that you have tried so far.
Please go to a reputable music store whether that be within your local area or online, and make sure you ask for as many opinions as possible. At the end of the day upgrading your musical instrument is an investment, and if your dropping the low end of four figures then that instrument has to be right for you.
