A New Tune a Day for Flutes Books 1 & 2

Hi everyone,

In todays post I'm going to talk about a tutor book series called 'A New Tune a Day' for Flute.

Layout
They are 35 Lessons split across both books, and each lesson focuses on one or two aspects of learning and developing on the flute whilst also keeping it fun. The layout is also very user friendly, so its great if you are learning by yourself. Even before you start on your first lesson within 'A New Tune a Day' the books starts of by talking about the different aspects of reading music and the notes in the stave, and then goes on to explain about putting your instrument together, taking the instrument apart and cleaning your instrument after you have finished practicing.

Lessons
Within each lesson it gives you both a diagram and a photograph on how to sound a certain note that the lesson is taking you through. I actually prefer this way to the drawn diagrams in 'Abracadabra', as it's just a clearer way of demonstrating how to play the notes. The lesson will then go into a short series of exercises to get used to playing the notes within that exercises. From the short exercises it will then go onto you learning and playing pieces with the notes that you have been introduced to within that lesson.

Within the banner of each lesson you will find a list of aims to work towards in each lesson, and throughout each of the lessons you will slowly be introduced to music theory as you work through the books.

Additional
In the centre of both books you will find a pull out fingering chart, and goes right the way up to three and half octaves.

Also, if you didn't want to buy both of the books separately, you can now buy both books as a compilation and save yourself a bit of money.

I would recommend these books to anyone whose just starting out on the flute, as they are clear and concise layout. I also like the aims within each lesson, as then it gives you something to aim for; and you work through this series of books at your own pace.
